Vitamin C Serum + sunscreen.
It's a
match made in
skin care heaven.
Put these on
each morning and your
beautiful complexion will thank you
later!
Let's be
honest. As the
days become
hotter and longer,
most of us like to have FUN in the
sun. But the
UVA + UVB rays are damaging to
all, so
best to play as
safely as we can.
That's why we decided to interview
2 experts in the
field of
dermatology science---
Dr. Joseph Meli and Dr. Matteo Sorato,
researchers in
Epigenetics .
Both
gentlemen launched
Kleem Organics which boasts an
excellent Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid.
We have tried this
C serum and LOVE it. You can find it here at
Amazon ($23.99).
20% Vitamin C in its stabilized PURE form.
1. How does Vitamin C serum and sunscreen help each other? And when exactly do we
apply each one?
Drs. Meli + Sorato: The use of a properly-applied sun cream can only stop around 55% of free radicals produced by UV rays. The 45% of free radicals left, responsible for photo-aging can be blocked by the application of the powerful antioxidant vitamin C.
Vitamin C doesn’t create a protective shield against the UV rays, since it doesn’t absorb them, Instead it neutralizes the dangerous free radicals. This highly beneficial and desirable effect cannot be provided by any solar cream. That’s why it’s so important to use both solar cream and vitamin C serum for best protection.
So it’s better to apply vitamin C serum first and then the solar cream.
2. Is it true NOT to wear retin-A and Vit. C at the same time, but to alternate? Why?
Drs. Meli + Sorato: It is always important to know what you want to accomplish with any skin care program, but in general, what we suggest, as many dermatologists do is to protect your skin in the morning and repair it, in the evening.
The perfect combination to protect your skin would be to apply vitamin C serum under a sunscreen in the daytime, because the sunscreen blocks UV light and the Vitamin C is a protective antioxidant which eliminates the free radicals which are responsible for 80% of premature aging.
Retin A is the gold standard for PM repair and since it is very unstable to light, it does not work well during the day. Retin A and topical Vitamin C are very important for good skin care. Vitamin C actually helps Retin A work better! Vitamin C fighting the free radicals, helps protect Retin A from oxidization as it penetrates deeper into the skin, thereby increasing its anti-aging benefits!
We will explore
