Some women are calling Latisse, Botox for the eyes.
But you don't have to worry. This exciting new product developed by Allergan, the same folks who brought you Botox, does not entail stinging needle pricks around your eyelids. Thank goodness.
Latisse could prove to be one of the most important beauty treatments in 2009.
Latisse grows you longer, thicker, darker eyelashes and all with a simple, painless drop of bimatoprost ophthalmic solution-0.03%. The Latisse.com website explains it all:
"Remove an applicator from its tray. Then, holding the sterile applicator horizontally, place one drop of LATISSE™ solution on the area of the applicator closest to the tip but not on the tip.
Immediately draw the applicator carefully along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes (where the eyelashes meet the skin) just as you would apply liquid eyeliner. This area should feel lightly moist without runoff.
Blot any excess solution beyond the eyelid with a tissue."
What we love about this eyelash thickener---it's the first and only one for treatment approved by the FDA for hypotrichosis of the eyelashes. That means, having inadequate lashes.
This is a once-daily prescription, available only through a doctor.
What's remarkable, you can see a signifcant difference in upper eyelashes in about 8 weeks, with full results in 16 weeks. By the way, this prescripition is not designed to use for the lashes along the lower lid.
But you must be anchored to Latisse for life. In other words, if you stop using Latisse, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance within weeks or months.
Any harmful side effects? According to Allergan, the clinical trials lasted for 13 years, and the product has proven to be quite safe. Usually redness or itchiness around the eye is common. But, there are a couple of concerns:
"LATISSE™ use may cause darkening of the eyelid skin which may be reversible. Although not reported in clinical studies, LATISSE™ use may also cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent."
We still believe that Latisse is a super beauty treatment for women who have always desired long, thick, dark lashes. The results are amazing. And your doctor will be able to determine if you are, in fact, a good candidate for this prescription.
Latisse by the way, is here. Allergan is launching the beauty product nationwide in the first quarter of this new year.
