Seashells. LavaGel. Hot massage.We're not sure how many lavish spas here in the U.S. have caught on to the hottest, new craze, but our friends in the U.K. are already leading the way.
And it all involves a beautiful shell readily found in the Philippines called the tiger striped clam shell.
We love the idea, because this is actually an eco-friendly massage. No electricity needed to warm up these pretty, pink-hued shells. According to what we read here," a teabag-like sachet is placed inside each shell. This is the “LavaGel” (a mix including algae and sea kelp) which, when combined with salt water, generates enough heat for an hour-long massage." Yes, heat is actually produced when a chemical reaction occurs after mixing the algae and other ingredients.
It sounds delightful and soothing, and nice and warm. And the tiger striped clam shell, itself, becomes a massage tool. The different parts of the shell are used for different massage strokes. And while being used across the body, the heat from the shells naturally produces calcium. This calcium is then transferred to the skin which is known to help firm and rebuild or rejuvenate.
And these shells are easy to handle, because, they are light to hold and fit perfectly in the palm of your hand, allowing therapists to, " apply deep pressure with the shell doing all the work. The heat can also be used on problems areas to release muscle tension and soreness and to promote relaxation of the fascia layers that connect muscles to the rest of the body."

Sure could use a massage like this.My neck is so tense.My spa says theyve heard of the shell massage but it's not around the Texas area so far/
This massagge looks great but Id rather have a clam plate out of it..LOL..
